Hi,

My name is Erin and I have been in remission from breast cancer for the last 8 years. Since I was diagnosed at 37, I am considered a young adult survivor. This makes me eligible to participate in programs such as True North Treks. While fighting cancer was awful, navigating life after cancer has also been challenging. Programs like this foster connection and help you to realize there are other people who "get you."

This past December was pretty hard for me with a cancer scare. I didn't realize how quickly I could get pulled right back into being scared all the time that it was going to come back. While I was so very lucky that it wasnt cancer, I think I need a "tune up." True North Treks offers free retreat style treks and I have been lucky enough to be picked for a retreat this summer. When someone commits and accepts to go on a trip, they also have to promise to try and raise money to pay it forward for the next survivor to attend for free. Any amount you could spare would be awesome!! I am so grateful and lucky!

TRUE NORTH TREKS is a 501(c)3 national nonprofit organization whose mission is to support teens, young adults and caregivers affected by cancer to "find direction through connection." One of the primary ways we do this is by taking groups on free backpacking, canoeing, and retreat-style treks in beautiful and remote places in nature where they can engage in three crucial connections that are often missing from conventional cancer care: 1) connection with nature (after going through something as unnatural as cancer treatment), 2) connection with peers who get it and have walked a similar path, and 3) connection with oneself through mindful awareness practices, such as meditation and yoga.
